burning day

the phoenix is a mythical creature
it lives, makes a pyre, is consumed by flames and reborn
the phoenix is the one animal man cannot imitate
we have built airplanes to fly and submarines to dive
and we have built more to burn…….so much to burn
but we are not reborn
man is the only creature which commits suicide
we pile responsibilities commitments and pressures on
until we can no longer move from under them
until that little flame of dreaming hope is surrounded
by the unburnable need of the moment
and crawls back to burn us whole
we are not phoenix
